Most people go about writing YouTube titles the wrong way. As the video is uploading in YouTube Studio, they try to slap together a title that describes their video. This is wrong in two ways.
First, in an ideal world, you come up with your title before you even start scripting. You want to first ask yourself, “What will my audience be excited to watch?” and then design your title and video around the answer.
And yes, even if you’re vlogging or filming a podcast, ideally you have several title ideas beforehand and try to capture content that delivers on one of those promises (this will make writing the title A LOT easier for you).
The second thing most people do wrong is that they try to describe their videos in their titles. That’s not necessarily wrong, it’s just not always the ideal situation.
Instead, ask yourself, “What’s the most interesting part of this video for my audience?” It could be the main subject of what your video is about, but it could also be the benefit your audience gets from the video, the problem it solves, or even just a small piece of what your video is about.
One more tip for writing good YouTube titles: the best titles typically evoke curiosity, fear, and/or desire. Your title doesn’t need to evoke all three, just one or two of these emotions is fine, but make sure it’s emotionally strong.
